Philipp Otto Runge (1777-1810) is considered the founder of Romantic art in Germany. During the period of upheaval around 1800, he created a visual world in which humans, nature and time merge into a poetic cosmos. In his drawings and paintings, but also in his texts, he reveals himself to be a radical visionary. In the exhibition, Runge's work enters into dialogue with his contemporaries. Artistic positions of the 20th and 21st centuries also impressively underline the topicality of his work, which extends far beyond the Romantic era.
